Free Credit Check Scams

Beware of free credit check scams! Many companies on the internet offer a free credit check or credit report. They require a credit card number to set up your account, but claim they will not charge you. This is a lie and a scam. The fine print on the website (usually written in a font that is only a shade different in color from the background on which it is written) usually states that there will be a monthly fee associated with signing up for an account, or that you will be automatically signed up for a different third party service. Free credit checks can be done through major credit bureaus once a year; don’t waste time and money with third party scam sites!
